Fighting Off The Sun by Jeffrey S. Callico

Jeffrey S. Callico is the author of several chapbooks of poetry, though this book appears to be his first publishing and is a collection of short stories rather than poetry.


Jeffrey has a unique writing style of flash fiction/short story with the uncanny ability to tap into the realities of his characters and write descriptions which transform the reader into that other atmosphere. I literally felt as if I were spying through a window while reading most of these stories. Some are mysterious and leave one scratching their chin in contemplation, others totally blow you away with the the surreal turn of events on such mundane, everyday life matters.

I would love to see Jeffrey take some of these characters, in their little sketches of life, and write a long novel concerning the interweaving of each of their lives for one exploding outcome.

I will definitely be keeping tabs on this author and giddily await his future publications.
